Spending a day in the genuine atmosphere of old Naples. Arriving in Naples by coach we go to the “Piazza del Gesù”, starting our walking tour in the church of “Gesù Nuovo” , a masterpiece of Neapolitan Baroque, the central altar has a globe of lapis lazuli and on top there is a precious statue of the Immaculate Mary. We then go on to the gothic church of “Santa Chiara” where there is the tomb of king Robert the wise patron of Giotto in Naples, you can also visit it’s beautiful cloister with glazed bright ceramics and a small museum. The entrance fee is 5.00€. Continuing in the heart of old Naples you came to “San Gregorio Armeno” witch is known throughout the world for its crib craftsman, you will have some free time to admire the different styles of cribs. You will then head towards the famous Chapel of “San Severo”, where you can admire a fine collection of statues in Carrara marble of the ‘700 commissioned by Prince San Severo, Raimondo de Sangro. The most important statue is the Veiled Christ of a high Masonic, religious and symbolic value, so beautiful that the famous sculptor Canova wanted to buy it. In the crypt of the Chapel you can see two skeletons with arterials and venous mysteriously conserved in a liquid invented by the Prince. Free time for lunch where you can enjoy a classic Neapolitan Pizza Margherita, then we will have a tour of some of the monuments in the centre of Naples, admiring the elegant architecture of the “Gelleria Umberto”, built in 1890, the Royal Palace, San Carlo Theatre and the church of Francesco di Paola in Piazza Plebiscito, one of the most famous squares in Naples, where the unit of the South to the rest of Italy was proclaimed by Giuseppe Garibaldi, then arriving at the Maschio Angioino, the famous castle built by the French kings in the Middle Ages and enriched with marble arches by the Spanish Luigi of Aragon. Return to Sorrento in the afternoon.
